QSF Templates

Before these Qualtrics templates will function properly, researchers need to complete a short one-time setup process. Full instructions are available in the setup guide, which walks you through:

  1. Getting an OpenAI API key
  2. Creating a GitHub account
  3. Connecting your GitHub to Vercel
  4. Deploying the LUCID serverless function and obtaining its web address

Once these steps are completed, you can download and launch any of the templates below in Qualtrics.

Starter Template

This template allows survey participants to engage in a single back-and-forth conversation with a GPT-powered chatbot inside a Qualtrics survey.

  • Context: Conversation with a Generative AI interviewer about participant interest in purchasing an electric vehicle.
  • Source: Analagous to Study 1 in Garvey and Blanchard (2025).
  • Between-subject Manipulation in Conversation

This template allows researchers to randomly allocate survey participants to engage with one of two GPT-powered chatbots inside a Qualtrics survey.

  • Context: Conversation that experimentally manipulates the behavior of a Generative AI interviewer in the context of purchasing an electric vehicle. Experimental manipulation alters the conversational tone of the GenAI interviewer (casual tone vs. formal tone).
  • Source: Analagous to Study 2 in Garvey and Blanchard (2025).
